Paging

For this week we discussed about Paging. This is also a process schedule but a different version. It is easy for me because first of all it is discussed well but sometimes I'm getting consfused on the questions. Even though I know how to answer it I'm not sure if what i'm doing is the correct answer for the question or maybe I'm doing other formulas but I just need to understand it more so I will not get confused on the exam. Our second to the last meeting, we just had a board work and I'm relly happy because I answered on the board again!! Yaaay for +10 on the exam. I guess I really learned a lot in Opesys1 and I really enjoyed the second half of the subjects because I really like computing or application type of exam/topic.

Process Scheduling-Part II

For the past few weeks we are still talking about the process scheduling but this time it has a different version such as Best fit, Worst Fit, and First fit and for the MVT or Multi-programming variable task are the with compaction and of course without compaction. For me the easiest for the first part is the First fit because this is only based on the first process that will come and if it can fit on the given space. The second easiest for me is the best fit and the hardest is the Worst fit because it is kind of tricky and sometimes I get lost while doing the tables. For the MVT I guess all of us will say that the with compaction is easier compare to without compaction. With compaction is really easy because you can move the process up if it is already done processing but when it comes to without compaction you cannot move the process up if the first process is already done. This is really tricky for me because sometimes even though the process cannot fit, I still put them in that given space because I thought I can still use the extra spaces at the end of the last process but you cannot so I really find it tricky.

Our lesson is easy for me as long as I listen to our lesson plus I really get it compare to the other process schedules which are very tricky compare to this one. The board work and exercise work for me to understand more the topic. I hope next time we still have a board work.

Process Scheduling

Since last last week we started discussing the Process Scheduling. We already discussed four (4) types, these are: First come first serve, Shortest Job First-NP, Shortest Job first-P, Round Robin and Highest Response Ratio Next. In the problem, our professor will give us the Arrival time (AT) and the Burst Time (BT). We should do three (3) steps in every problem, first is the Summation of the Burst Time, it is easy because we will only get the sum of the burst time. Second is the Gantt' Chart which I find tricky especially when I use the Shortest Job First-P. And last the Performance table which depend on the Gantt' Chart, it is easy but you just need to make sure that your Gantt' Chart is correct for the Performance table to be correct.

The First come first serve, for all of us it is the easiest because you will only base the process on the Arrival Time (AT). The shortest arrival time would be the first to be processed. Second we discussed the Shortest Job First-NP, it is also easy for me. The process will be based on the Arrival time and the burst time, if next arrival times is already in, then your process would be base on your burst time, the shortest burst time would be processed first. And last but not the least we discussed the Shortest Job First-P which I find really tricky because I don't know if you should already insert the process or not yet because you need to subtract from the burst time if the process' arrival time will enter. Next in the Process Scheduling is the Round Robin which I find kind of easy compared to the SJF-P because you need to subtract the TQ to the burst time. Last is the Highest Response Ratio Next which I guess is like the FCFS but you need to find for the RR and there is a given solution to find that, well I'm not really that sure because my mind was already flying because of the Round Robin.

I enjoyed the topic but I'm just really confused with the other Process Schedules, but I really enjoyed the FCFS, SJF-NP, and the RR. I'm trying my best to learn the other processes but when we were doing it on the board it is so easy but when I'am already on my own, I'm like "Paano ulit 'to?" and again i'm confused, but when we will already answer the example exercise, I will say "Ahh, ganun pala yun, gets ko na." then when we will answer individually, I'm lost. AGAIN. Sad truth about my life huhuhu. But I really need to learn it because it is a big part in the subject Operating System.

For the last two weeks I learned a lot of different lessons in Opesys. First is the Security Architectural Models which are Bella La Padula Model, Biba Model and Clark Wilson Model. I was quite confused because I wasn't able to understand it at first but at the end I already did, Yipee! I can say that when you will do it, you should really focus and put your mind in to it. You should also know the ranking of the Topsecret, Secret, Confidential and Public.

The main thing that I learned for the past three weeks is how to code and make a new user in Linux. I also learned how to put it in a group, how to create a group, how to put a password on the user that I made and I also learned how to change the access of a specific group, if they can write, read or both. It is really cool and fun as well, as long as you know the code you can add users as long as you want and you can also change their accessibility because that is your account or your user.

On our last meeting, we had a quiz and it's sad to say that I did not passed but it is okay because there is always a next time:)

Introduction to Operating System

Last week, 2nd term already started and one of my subject is Operating System or also known as Opesys1. Our professor is sir Justin and at the first meeting I can already say that he is a cool professor. Even though he is teaching opesys, he is honest with us that the subject is pretty much boring.

Our first day, we just discussed the different house rules and the division of the grades. He also told us that we will have activity every after each chapter, how many quizzes we'll have, which is only two for the whole term and what kind of test will that be. He also told us the coverage of Opesys1. Based on his introduction, opesys will be a easy subject, well hopefully :).

On our second day we already started discussing the Introduction about Operating system, it covers the meaning of OS, the History and the different types of Operating System that are invented. I was really surprised because I never thought that we have so many Operating System, because some of those are not really popular or only a few group of people use it. I wasn't able to get the information or what is special about that Operating System because it wasn't discussed. It's okay though because it might not be too much important. I can say that some OS are really confusing especially when you haven't use it before. He also gave the first activity.

Next meeting or our third day, we discussed about our activity but the even number part questions were not discussed well and we also talked about the Boot loader, I'm really getting confused on this topic because I don't understand it so much but I need to try my best to understand it. One more topic we discussed is about the Access Control, I really find this topic cool even though it's really tricky. But if you really understand it and take it slow on answer so you can understand it well, it is fun and cool to do.

I hope next time we have more lab activities and we can practice the Access Control topic in a seatwork, activity, game, etc. The first two weeks of Opesys is fun, I hope the next topics will be easy. Plus I hope that the other group who are assigned to discuss the given activity will report it well so we could understand it.
